SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—January 12 through March 26, 2006. The Arizona Fine Art EXPO is produced by Thunderbird Artists of Fountain Hills, Ariz., the leading producer of fine art festivals and wine tasting events in the Southwest. They receive rave reviews when it comes to producing the best juried selection of artists from throughout the United States.
Headlee’s originality for composition is illustrated in “Ten Pac” (below).
Last year, Thunderbird Artists chose Lance Headlee to be the featured artist and selected a piece of his work to be on their first limited edition print for 2005 - titled “Three Cowboys”. The CEO and person responsible for jurying the event, Judi Combs, said “When I first saw this masterpiece it screamed to me… Arizona… Arizona…
Arizona! After living here all my life, I’ve grown up with respect for real cowboys, Indians and rodeos. When I took my first look at this piece it excited me because I was looking for the perfect piece of art to represent our event - the Arizona Fine Art EXPO. The color yellow stands for the Arizona Sun, the three rugged men represent our cowboys, the rope represents the rodeos and to top it off we have fine art quality all wrapped up in one image. It could only be a Lance Headlee piece to represent our first year and to kick off our event.” See print below.
Any one that has seen Lance Headlee’s work will agree that his style is easily recognizable - especially with those worn out, turned up pointed boots, weathered chaps, blue jeans, twisted lassoing ropes, oversized western hats and trench coats. Headlee creates a fresh dynamic look of the old west. Cowboys and cowgirls come alive with an intense and mysterious attitude never seen before. With his large format, dramatic stroke and vibrant colors mixed with rich earth tones, Headlee's unique vision of the old west has caught the attention of collectors worldwide. Lance Headlee's paintings have truly become the pinnacle of the new modern contemporary west movement. Lance delights in being different - in being on the cutting edge of artistic creation with an attitude.

Lance also became interested in creating bronze sculptures to accompany his paintings last year at the EXPO. "I thought it would be nice to have some companion pieces with my paintings," he said recently. His first bronze was a 21-inch full color replica of his painting, Rowdy. Rowdy depicts a young cowboy decked in brown and blue, a red neckerchief around his neck and a huge black hat shadowing his eyes, as he assumes a cocky, wide-legged stance and unfurls his rope in a graceful swirl. All of Lance's cowboy works are brilliantly colored daring images of men and women with shadowed eyes in aggressive poses, softened only by the graceful swirls of twirling rope and flowing garments.
