Thunderbird Artists is heading west again! West of Phoenix that is; to the City of Surprise! In 2005, Thunderbird Artists produced an extraordinary festival, set within 180 acres, on the Surprise Recreation Campus. Back by popular demand, the City of Surprise and Thunderbird Artists are once again partnering for another spectacular Surprise Fine Art & Wine Festival.Surprise warrants a weekend stay for the whole family. Surprise Stadium is home for the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals ‘Spring Training’ and the Surprise Recreation Campus has a fishing lake, along with a 25 court Tennis & Racquet Complex.
Surprise is located 20 miles northwest of Phoenix. Just 45 minutes from downtown Phoenix, Surprise is where you can connect with the charm of mountain park lands, a regional lake and the untouched open Sonoran Desert. The neighborhoods are clean, distinctive and unique; it’s no wonder why nine out of 10 residents surveyed recommend Surprise as a place to live and start a business!
Featured Artist is Neil Blanck.
The featured artists, Neil and Vivian Blanck, have created a medium all their own, by combining painting and sculptural work.
This husband and wife team developed their present form of painting on spherical pieces of maple wood, in order to create both a painterly and sculptural selection of work. In the 1970’s, Neil discovered he enjoyed the added challenge of working with spheres and unique niche not commonly seen. The paintings are both abstract and representational, where spatial and color relationships are constantly changing, depending on the positioning of the sphere.
In addition to the Blanck’s, 75 other juried fine artists will join Thunderbird Artists to bring the city of Surprise a world-class, fine art event. Patrons will enjoy more than 2,000 paintings, small, medium and life-size bronzes, glass sculptures, metal creations, hand thrown clay, Raku pottery and sculptures, wood turned bowls, unique and one of a kind jewelry, photography, elegant stone, copper, clay and mixed media sculptures.
